Our Story
Mixed Culture Brewing Co. was founded by Kevin and Quixia Welch, two classically trained French horn players whose love of craft, culture, and community eventually led them from the concert hall to the brewhouse.
WHY “MIXED CULTURE”?
The name Mixed Culture carries two meanings. In brewing, a mixed culture beer is fermented with multiple strains of yeast and microorganisms working together to create depth, complexity, and character. To us, yeast is the heart of beer. It's the living culture that transforms simple ingredients into something greater than the sum of its parts.
But Mixed Culture is also about people. Located at 45th and Minnehaha in South Minneapolis, we believe great beer has the power to bring people together. Different backgrounds. Different perspectives. Different traditions. Shared tables.
Our inspiration has always come from the Belgian brewing tradition, where yeast-driven beers, mixed fermentation, and centuries-old techniques continue to influence brewers around the world. At the same time, we're committed to serving the beers our community wants to drink today while providing an on-ramp to the larger world of beer. Whether you're ordering your first craft beer or searching for a rare mixed-fermentation release, we want Mixed Culture to be a place where curiosity is welcomed, questions are encouraged, and everyone feels comfortable pulling up a chair and staying awhile. At its core, Mixed Culture is about hospitality. It's the belief that a full glass, a shared table, and an open mind can create meaningful connections. It's a brewery built around living culture, both in the beer and in the people who gather around it.
